North Devon and Exmoor
Our office is situated in South Molton, a small market town in North Devon also known as the ‘Gateway to Exmoor’. South Molton is ideally situated to explore the beautiful coast and countryside of North Devon, Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks.
The heather clad moorland of Exmoor is interspersed with Devon farmland home to stock farms with dairy, beef and sheep. To the north its rugged coastline with cliffs and beautiful sandy beaches sweep down to the rolling Atlantic Sea. Like a giant spider web, narrow lanes with high Devon banks connect villages, hamlets and farms and nestled in valley coombes are thatched cottages, old pubs and churches. There is so much to see and so many places to explore. Exmoor was designated a National Park in 1954 and provides an endless variety of walking, cycling, horse riding, country sports, surfing and sailing.
Away from Exmoor and to the west are coastal villages and towns such as Westward Ho! With its long sandy beach and home to the Royal North Devon Championship Golf Course, the oldest golf club in England. Appledore, a small quaint coastal village is located on the estuary of the rivers Taw and Torridge with a picturesque quayside and narrow cobbled streets. The area has a thriving boating and yachting community as well as safe beaches for swimming, fishing and surfing. There are miles of delightful walks and cycling to be enjoyed along the coastal footpath and Tarka Trail.
Barnstaple, North Devon’s regional centre combines sophisticated shopping with the bustling atmosphere of markets and speciality shops. The Green Lanes Shopping Centre compliments the traditional pannier and craft markets held since 1855 in the Pannier Market Hall. Around every corner are pretty little alleys and courtyards, as well as Butchers Row being a line of open fronted shops selling speciality foods including meat, fish and traditional clotted cream. The North Devon Leisure Centre is equipped with swimming pool, sports hall, squash courts, gym and much more.
The pace of life in Devon is a little slower to that in busy towns and cities, people here have time to stop and talk which is probably why there is a strong demand for rural property in the area.
